Cause and Effect

We all seek pleasures and lasting permanent happiness in our lives.  One keeps indulging in various acts of meritorious and non-meritorious deeds in pursuit of joy and gratification.  Through experience one comes to realize that all joys on this earth are very temporary and fleeting.  Happiness and sorrow follow each other in this mundane life; one moment one is happy the very next moment one can be plunged into a harrowing experience.  We wonder why in this entire existence pain and pleasure, birth, decay and death takes place. The entire Nature functions on the principle of Cause and Effect.  This is the way the nature is designed and carries out the evolutionary process till the cosmic dissolution.

If we try and understand the functional effect of nature, we realize that the cause produces effect, this holds well for actions physical or mental. For e.g. Cause Lord, (Spirit)à effect à Nature (Matter), Cause Fire à effect à Heat.  Cause Desire à effect à Restlessness. Cause Sunà effect àLight.  Each example will give similar results. It would suffice to understand that without a cause there could be no effect. We revolve around in different incarnations due to the cause and effect factor, births after births. That is why all Incarnations of the Lord have been particular on performance of virtuous deeds and avoidance of sinful acts.   What ever we do will produce an effect. If you hurt someone physically be sure you will be injured if not in the present life then in the next birth.  If someone is harmed mentally similar result will take place (this includes animals and insect etc).  What ever we do casually will not produce a substantial effect but an action done with vehemence and gusto will have an effect of a very deep dimension than usually understood.  Here is a little puzzle that would keep you guessing, what cause affected birth of a being of a particular nature, in a particular city, to a certain parentage. For this answer one would have to work a little. Think a little you may come to the correct answer. The aim is to invoke a positive thought process.
Due to the cause and effect result of action the life cycle continues.    The end of the cause and effect phenomenon for a Jiva (being) only occurs once he realizes the God or The Self. The Holy Scriptures have gone to great extent to explain this occurrence of cause and effect and time and again all sages have emphasized the need of good conduct and behavior to obviate accruing demerit in ones deed and conduct.  In Gita, Lord Krishna has clearly mentioned that devotion and realization are the best means to get rid of this cycle or the clutches of nature.
