Laws of Nature

The entire information about the nature is given in The Vedas and some Puranas.     The nature functions according to it own dictum as enumerated by the creator.  Laws of nature are immutable and irrevocable. All are bound by it no one can say I’m so and so, my faith is so and so, “I’m not bound by this”, I don’t believe in this or that. The sting of snake irrespective of cast, creed or religion will cause death to the person it injects the venom unless treated in time. Similarly, AIDS will infect the beings exposed to the virus.  Exposure to extreme cold will cause pneumonia.  Prakrati doesn’t recognize caste, creed or man made laws.  Nature has it’s own laws of governance for all beings.  One reaps the harvest of good or bad life primarily based upon ones past and present deeds and conduct.

The nature retains it’s own balance.    Some of these effects are so subtle that we cannot notice them. The effects of the energy and force movement are not only on individual but it collectively affects a place, a country. Plundering, meddling in the natural phenomenon causes nature to re-act in varying degrees. Industrialization and vehicular explosion has caused Green House Effect. Deforestation world over has caused ecological imbalance and resultant erratic seasonal and weather changes. Overpopulation has caused hunger, joblessness, crime and insecurity. These are obvious natural fallouts. We must also remember there is a celestial government which is functional and it can interfere in any event, any place, any time for reasons best known to them.     They can grant boons and play havoc.

Nature is worshipped like Divine Mother or Mahamaya (Illusory power of the Lord) by certain sections in India. Ancient texts reveal that the nature is not different from the Lord but a part of the same Lord.  Worship of Divine Mother is also considered part of worship of the Lord Himself. Mahamaya controls the Nature and the celestial government. The Absolute Himself doesn’t interfere in the functioning of the Nature. However, scriptures reveal that God can interfere in the nature through his Yogmaya.    Both of these illuminating aspects may be subject to difference of opinion but it is brought out as stated in Vedic texts.   The sages also experience it to be true.    It is pointless getting involved with the theories about The Spirit and The Matter being same or different, whatever different sages may have experienced the purport of the opinions is the same.

Nature does not behave like humans; human beings make laws in accordance with the requirement of the need, of the hour and for speedy results suiting a particular place and needs of a certain society etc.  The natural laws are not subject to tempering due to human needs.  Few actions may bring about immediate effect and certain effects are felt hundred of years later. Like, if we consume sub-soil water indiscriminately the area will become a desert in few years to come. We cannot play hockey with football rules. We do not understand nature and with continuous violation of its rules we are likely to suffer the consequences time and again in form of natural and man-made calamities etc.

This should be adequate at this stage to know a little about nature and adhere to its functional principles; we can be punished singularly or collectively at the nature’s discretion for various misdeeds.  It is essential to learn a little about the nature and few of its functions as we in all our actions are subject to scrutiny by the nature. There is an elaborate, logical knowledge available of functioning of nature known to the sages and also available in the Vedas.

None of us are here by desire! We are here by design. None of us will leave this plane of consciousness with desire.   For the reason best known to the Creator, one has come in a particular incarnation and for some reason, one will leave that body at an appointed time in a particular way. People will wail and chant “ jolly good fellow” and one would think that mister so and so has evaporated into the thin air. This has been going on for billions of years and will continue the same way.

We are all the part of a grand design of the Creator. This is called divine play or Lila.   The Lord has created innumerable beings as a part of evolution consisting of the sentient and insentient. There is a mind-boggling diversity in this creation. From a microorganism to a huge elephant, a whale fish and a small plant to a tall tree and a mountain all are individualized consciousness. Progressively the evolution is moving ahead from lower to higher, one eventually becomes human being. There can also be a fall from higher beings to lower beings according to deeds.   Remember, it is very difficult to get a human birth.

The scriptures are replete with examples that a normal human does not easily comprehend life prior to and after a birth due to the design of the creation. Only those who have performed penances and austerities and obtained grace of God are endowed with the vision of perceiving of the subtle world in existence and the past, present and future.    They have divine eye and bestowed with divine vision, they are above human ego and hence do not show off or chat about it.    This has been revealed, as this is one of the fruits of devotion and spiritual practices, an aspirant must not seek these extra sensory perceptions as they become a hindrances in the progress and misuse can result in a serious fall. It has also been seen to be true that due to certain reasons some people have remembered there previous births for certain time specially as a child. This memory is erased after sometime.

The entire universe is a field of action.  One reaps the harvest of the deeds one performs; a bad action will give a bad result and a good action a good one.   Results of certain action may be felt in this birth and some in another birth.   If this were not so the very performance of good and meritorious deeds would become valueless.   The great seers, sages and incarnations of the Lord in various places and times have preached virtuous and truthful life for this very reason.   That is why the wise adhere to the truth; abide by the truth, no matter what the consequences may be.   The wise also know that this appearance called the world is like a mirage, all images which attract attention and simmer for a while and are gone, hence they do not attach any importance to temporary objects and remain aloof from sin and non virtuous actions.     They apply themselves intelligently and remain aloof from activity, which would hinder their spiritual progress.

If one observes the nature carefully one realizes that each object created by its designer has a particular characteristic or utility.   From a blade of grass to a tall tree, from a small pond, to an ocean, from a laborer to a king, each of the entity is performing a given task.   A particular item may seem to be of no utility to us but it may be of some use to another species.   It is extremely difficult to understand nature its creative and destructive activities.    The nature is rightly called the playfield of the Lord. Thus, the Jiva keeps playing to the tune of the nature called destiny.   Destiny is nothing but cause  (Deed; Past) and effect (Present and the future).    A person with wisdom once is exposed to this reality thereafter does not sit quietly but embarks upon the path of enlightenment.

Evolution for a human being is both forward and backward.   Virtuous deeds get better birth and immoral actions can make one fall from the human level and one may get back into the animal kingdom.   In this mundane life, pain and pleasure follow each other; it is a cycle of events every one has to face.   What we generally consider good for a human being may actually be a painful act or an acquisition for that very being.   Each and every person seeks affluence and power.    Power and money cannot give good sleep, happiness and satisfaction.   On the contrary material acquisitions and wanton desires makes one restless and dissatisfied.    Indulgence leads to frustration and greater desires.   Activities seeking luxury and authority become impediments in learning the truth and true purpose of life.   Many a seeker of truth turn away from spiritual pursuits thinking that how would it possible to give up desires and pleasure seeking activities.   Why should one be scared of ones own nature, which is naturally pious?  One must remember life is a battlefield for each and every being, a struggle for survival and gain of knowledge and independence.   It is not easy to escape from the clutches of nature, hence a normal person must perform his duty to the best of ones ability and honestly.      The best way out is to surrender to the Lord.  The desires should be limited.   One should refrain from over-indulgence in sensual pleasures and continue seeking true knowledge.   Once exposed to the truth all fear of uncertainty about life and future vanishes, instead of an indulgent coward there emerges a new personality full of knowledge and virtue.    No longer one remains a slave to the sensual desires.    One really embarks upon the true purpose of life.   Nature behaves in harmony with such a sage.

There is skepticism in the minds of the people that once the path towards spiritual glory is embarked upon it would impede normal human life.    People fear that one may have to live like a hermit or an ascetic.  Such fears are totally unfounded.    There is no such thing as renunciation of normal life.    Those who are temperamentally suited for this purpose should only practice renunciation.    It is no use sitting in a cave and craving sensual objects.   There is no need not go to any extremes; most of the practices should be done as a normal human being.   This is the correct understanding of the nature and functioning accordingly.
